Federal and state funding is distributed based on defined urban and rural areas, but transit service boundaries don't always align with urbanized areas, leaving unserved urban gaps. This research estimates the size and characteristics of individuals in urban gaps in Texas and explores approaches to fund and operate transit services in these areas.
The purpose of the research for Project 0-6199, Estimated Impact of the 2010 Census on the Texas Transit Funding Formula, is to project population growth for the 2010 Census in urbanized and non-urbanized areas in Texas and to identify the impacts on funding allocations using the Texas Transit Funding Formula.
This research estimates and projects the population in need of adult basic education services in Texas for the Workforce Investment Council in the Office of the Governor. Incorporating data from the American Community Survey and Texas Demographic Center, projections for 2008 to 2040 were provided by age, sex, race, Hispanic ethnicity, and nativity at the State and local workforce development area levels.
